Approximately 40 migrants are feared dead after a boat believed to be carrying 50 people capsized off the coast of Western Sahara.

The boat was en route to the Canary Islands, which is under Spanish control after leaving from Western Sahara.

Ten people were rescued by fishermen according to the SABC. The area in question where the boats set off from is disputed by the Morrocan government.

20 unidentified bodies found drifting in boat in Turks and Caicos Islands

Officials in the Turks and Caicos Islands are attempting to figure out the cause of death of 20 people whose bodies were discovered on a boat drifting near Grand Turk Island on Thursday.

Fishermen reportedly sighted the boat floating roughly 1.6km off the coast of the Grand Turk on Thursday, June 24, and notified the marine branch of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.

Authorities confirmed investigators had eliminated foul play as a possibility, however were still attempting to find out what happened as well as the identities of the deceased.

Boat carrying capsizes in Kebbi

In an earlier report by Legit.ng, a boat ferrying about 160 passengers was said to have capsized in the River Niger on Wednesday, May 26.

According to the report, dozens of people in the boat were missing. The boat left Niger state and was heading to Kebbi state in the northwest zone when it split and sank.

Abdullahi Buhari Wara, the local head of Ngaski district, narrated the incident. He said a rescue operation is underway but only 22 survivors and one dead body have been recovered, adding that about 140 passengers are still missing.
