- Many had expected Chadwick Boseman to win the Oscar for Best Actor owing to his performance in the film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
- From changing categories slots to how his image was used, and also him having won several other major awards, many saw no other winner
- This, however, was not to be as Anthony Hopkins bagged the prestigious award, leading to outrage on social media
Fans of late actor Chadwick Boseman have been displeased by his snub at the 93rd Oscar Awards show.
This comes after 83-year-old legendary actor Anthony Hopkins was awarded an Oscar for Best Actor in the movie The Father.
Many expected that Boseman would outrightly be the winner for his last film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, in which he took part while suffering from cancer.
Nothing is easy about what I do but God keeps me going, comedian Bae U says in tweet chat with Legit NG
The award was given at the end of the show, which seemed befitting for a star who gave his all to film, hence closing the night.
However, when it turned out the winner was Hopkins, fans immediately went on Twitter to air their frustrations at Boseman being 'robbed'.
One tweep noted that the issue was not Boseman failing to win but how The Academy used his image to boost views, switched the categories, and even made it seem like he was to win, only for them to go another route.
Another said a dying man gave the performance of a lifetime... of his lifetime, did everything to win and still did not.
Here are a few other reactions:
"#AnthonyHopkins is a masterful actor. But #ChadwickBoseman not getting acknowledged for his body of work and a spellbinding performance that he delivered while DYING OF CANCER is the kind of miss that will haunt the #Oscars for years. And neither Boseman nor Hopkins deserve that."
"Here's My Bigger Issues About #ChadwickBoseman Losing: They Used Him. They Used His Image. They Used Him To Boost Viewership. They Switched The Categories Around. They Had Joaquin Phoenix Walking out to Soul Music. They Used CB. That's the bigger issues and Fck Them For It."
"A dying man gives the performance of a lifetime... The last performance of his lifetime... Leaves it all up there... and you don’t give him the trophy?! #Oscars #ChadwickBoseman."
