Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted to his outburst during Portugal's 2-2 draw against Serbia in the World Cup qualifier earlier this weekend.

The 36-year-old scored a clear goal which could have handed his country the victory at the end of the added time but the effort was ruled out.

Definitely, the ball had crossed the line before Serbia captain Stefan Mitrovic cleared it off and Ronaldo tried making a case for himself but the linesman will not listen to him.

The incident got the Juventus star very angry that he slammed his country's armband on the floor while storming off the pitch straight into the dressing room.

And after regaining his cool, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner described the situation as an 'attack' on the entire Portugal population but insisted they will forge ahead and forget about what has happened. He said on Instagram:

"Being captain of the Portugal team is one of the greatest pride and privileges of my life. I always give and will give everything for my country, that will never change.
"But there are difficult times to deal with, especially when we feel that an entire nation is being harmed. Lift your head and face the next challenge now! Come on, Portugal!"

Regardless of his action in the match, Ronaldo remains super proud to be the captain of his country and added that it remains one of the greatest achievements of his life.

The winger has scored 102 goals for his national team - leaving him seven short of Ali Daei's record. With Euro's Championship coming up this year, Ronaldo could break the record before the end of 2021.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo was left devastatingly angry after his late winner for Portugal against Serbia was not counted.

The 36-year-old forward stormed off the pitch in the last moment of the game after his only goal of the meeting was overlooked by Dutch referee Danny Makkelie in the 90+4 minutes.

Furious Ronaldo slammed his captain armband by the touchline before walking straight into the dressing room while expressing his dissatisfaction towards the officiating.
