The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed how the agency generated N400 million from changes of birth dates by applicants in his first year in office.

Oloyede was appointed as the registrar of the examination body in 2016.

Surprised by the huge amount generated, the registrar explained that he later found out people were changing their dates of birth on the JAMB portal in order to meet the requirements to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

According to The Nation, the JAMB boss stated this in a presentation he made at the 2021 Batch ‘A’ pre-mobilisation workshop of the NYSC for institutions and other stakeholders in Abuja.

To stop the bad practice, Oloyede said appropriate restrictions have been put in place, adding that changes in the dates of birth on the JAMB portal must be done by himself only after due diligence would have been done.

According to the NYSC's guidelines, a person shall not be called upon to serve in the service corps if, at the date of graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification, he/she is over the age of 30 years.
