Sheik Abubakar Ahmad Gumi, a famous Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, has said that the only way the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari can overcome banditry is to forgive the bandits.

According to Gumi, all that the bandits want is to be free after they surrender their arms and repent, Daily Trust reports.

He said the bandits have specifically told him that they do not want to be chased by legal actions after given amnesty.

“Since that is the bottle-neck and it is only the federal government that can give them that leverage. And strangely we found out that they are victims too. They were victims of profiling."
