Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have killed an Ibadan-based socialite identified as Olaleye Ajibola, popularly called Gatuso.
The socialite, who was planning to propose to his lover on Sunday, January 24, was killed on Saturday, January 23, at the Town House Hotel in Ibadan.
After arriving at the hotel with some of his friends, the man ran into the robbers who were fleeing with stolen valuables, Linda Ikeji's Blog reports.
He was said to have been shot after the gunmen saw him making a phone call. The incident was confirmed by the police in Oyo state.
Police spokesperson in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said four gunmen were responsible for the evil act.
In similar news, as Nigeria continues to battle security challenges, tragedy struck in Taraba state as unknown gunmen killed Salihu Dovo, the chairman of Ardo-Kola local government of the area.
Dovo was murdered after he was kidnapped in the early hours of Sunday, January 24, from his residence in Sabon Gari area of Jalingo, the state capital.
A family source who confirmed the incident said the assailants numbering about 20 took Dovo to an unknown destination after invading his house.
The source who was in the house when the incident occurred said that the unknown gunmen came in through the fence of the house, attacked the security guards before gaining entrance into the main building.
The gunmen also made away with some mobile phones belonging to those at Dovo's residence. It was reported that a few hours later, the family of the local government chairman was called to come to pick up his corpse in the bush.
