Taylor Swift donated $13 000 (N4.9m) to two moms who had been facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic.

The mothers, named Nikki Cornwell and Shelbie Selewski, had started GoFundMe pages to try and make ends meet after struggling during the Covid-19 crisis. They were featured in an article about the pandemic in The Washington Post which Taylor Swift then saw.

The singer-songwriter took action by donating $13 000 to each of the moms and sending them heartfelt notes to wish them well.

Page Six reported on how Shelbie wrote on her page:

“I have never thought to make a GoFundMe, but with Christmas approaching I just didn’t know what else to do."

The mom had reached a point of desperation after the pandemic worsened her financial struggles and reached out to strangers for help stating:

“The money will go directly to keeping our lights on this holiday season and trying to pay some rent so we aren’t evicted. Any leftover money will go toward the kids.”

Swift added $13 000 to Shelbie's page and Nikki's too. The note she wrote to Nikki read:

“Nikki, I read about you in the Washington Post and thought it was really brave of you to share your story.”

Swift added:

“I’m so sorry for everything you’ve had to go through this year and wanted to send you this gift, from one Nashville girl to another. Love, Taylor.”
