COVID-19: Ogun orders full reopening of churches, mosques, hotels

- Mosques, churches, hotels have now been fully reopened in Ogun state

- The governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, gave the directive on Wednesday, October 28

- The worship centres, businesses, schools had been closed in March to contain the spread of the raging coronavirus

The governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun, has ordered full reopening of religious centres, businesses, hotels and other entertainment centres in the state.

Recall that the governor had closed religious centres, businesses and schools in March in a bid to check the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.

In August, he announced the reopening of only worship centres and schools subject to guidelines of the safety measures.

He reduced worshippers for a service at 200 and insisted services must not exceed one and a half hour.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, October 28, by his chief press secretary, Kunle Somorin, Governor Dapo said the religious centres and other public places have been reopened following the relative success recorded in checking the deadly virus.

The Ogun state government had also earlier directed schools in the state to resume academic activities from Monday, October 26.

The announcement was made via Twitter by Somorin, a spokesperson to Governor Abiodun.

Somorin said the government decided to allow the resumption of schools after organisers of the #EndSARS protests suspended protests in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also on Tuesday, October 27, approved the full reopening of all markets in Lagos state after months of partial operations.

Legit.ng gathered that the Lagos commissioner for local government and community affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed, gave the directive in a statement on Tuesday, October 27.

EndSARS: Ogun government announces date for school resumption

Gawat Jubril, the governor’s senior special assistant on new media, in the statement posted on Twitter noted that Sanwo-Olu took the decision to further enhance trade and commerce and mitigate the hardship of recent times.
