Scores injured as APC, ADC supporters clash in Ondo

- Supporters of APC and ADC on Friday, August 21, clashed in Ondo state

- The clash may not be unconnected with the incoming governorship election in the state

- Many were wounded and about 15 vehicles were said to have been destroyed

A report by The Nation indicates that scores of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) were injured in a fracas in Ondo West local government area.

Legit.ng gathered that the clash was not unconnected with the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, August 22.

The newspaper noted that about 15 vehicles were destroyed in the clash.

Ondo Police spokesman, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, was said to have confirmed the clash and said many wounded persons have been hospitalised.

Ikoro said an investigation was still on to unravel the cause of the clash.

Speaking on the incident, the Ondo APC chairman, Ade Adetimehin, alleged that ADC members attacked APC supporters campaigning in the area.

Adetimehin, who described the ADC as an alarmist party, said it was yet to get over harvest of its chieftains into the APC.

He said he advised APC members not to retaliate but report at the nearest police station.

The Ondo APC chairman said the party was campaigning with achievements of Governor Akeredolu in infrastructural development, education, health, welfare and employment of young graduates.

According to the report, officials of the Ondo ADC were yet to react at press time.

The political tempo in Ondo is rising as the southwest state prepares for another civic duty to elect a new governor in October.

In light of this, business mogul Jimoh Ibrahim has told the ruling APC in the state to open its doors to receive more defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties.

Meanwhile, the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state is threatening its plans to wrestle power from the ruling APC.

Legit.ng had previously reported that Banji Okunomo, a governorship aspirant, and his supporters have backed out of campaign activities of Eyitayo Jegede across the state.

Jegede was asked to pick one of the aspirants from Ondo South that contested against him at the PDP primary as his running mate, instead, he chose Gboluga Ikengboju, a member of the House of Representatives.
