Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez has decided to choose both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest footballers of all time.

The superstars have been a phenomenon for their respective clubs, helping them win titles both domestically and also on the continent.

Both share 11 Ballon d'Or awards between them as well as other individual prizes - which means their rivalry spans beyond a decade.

However, Vazquez who played alongside Ronaldo, while coming against Lionel Messi in the Spanish League believes both deserve the tag.

The former Espanyol player during a question and answer session with Bleacher Report said: "I think it is between Messi and Cristiano," Vazquez said when asked for the greatest of all time.

"Both are incredible players that are making history. Many, many years will have to pass to see two players like them."

Speaking about Ronaldo, Vazquez revealed how the Portuguese star's work rate helped him achieve greatness everywhere he plays.

"He is an incredible professional and he demanded the most out of himself and his teammates, so he made everybody do their best," he said.

When asked about the 35=year-old's stunning overhead kick against Juventus in 2018, Vazquez added: "I saw a centre from Carvajal, and the ball was coming to the zone I was in, and suddenly some legs appeared.

"I saw it was Cristiano and he scored such a great goal. And I thought it's best that those legs appeared."

The 28-year-old grew up watching Luis Figo at Real Madrid and the Portuguese legend has remained his idol up to date as reported by Goal.com.

"I grew up watching him play in Real Madrid, he plays in my position and I've always watched [him] and still do watch videos of him to improve my game through his," he said.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Brazilian legend Pele claims Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Argentine legend Lionel Messi but reiterated that himself remains the greatest as cited on SunSport.

The three-time world cup winner believes the players of today cannot live up to the level of his greatness as he continues to hold the Guinness World Record as top scorer of all time.

The 79-year-old scored 1,281 goals during his career and despite a huge number of these goals scored in unofficial games; he believes none of these new generation players can reach that feat.
