CAN chairman's death: Femi Adesina under fire for criticising Christian body

- Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, is currently trending on Twitter and the comments are not nice

- The presidential aide is being criticised for his comments about a Christian group, CAN

- Adesina took a swipe at CAN over its statement following the murder of Lawan Andimi, CAN chairman of Michika local government in Adamawa state

The special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, under fire over his comments about the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Adesina had said the Christian body speaks as if it is an opposition political party. This was in reaction to a statement by the association on the death of Lawan Andimi, CAN chairman of Michika local government in Adamawa state.

Andimi was killed on Monday after N800 million ransom allegedly demanded by the insurgents was not paid.

Following Andimi's death, the body had said Christians in the country have become endangered species, while also calling on President Muhammadu Buhari “to purge himself of the allegations of nepotism and religious favouritism by reconstituting the leadership of security outfits”.

Adesina wrote an article on Friday, January 14, asking the Christian body to purge itself of narratives aimed at discrediting the Buhari administration.

Nigerians are not taking it easy on him as they have taken to social media to criticise him.

One of those who have spoken out against the presidential aide is Apostle Johnson Suleman.

The cleric said certain positions should be given to people who have heads, even if they lack brains.

He wrote: "Such an insensitive man is a presidential media aide? Certain positions should be given to people who have heads..even if they lack brains, we can manage 'just head'."

Some are of the opinion that Adesina is allowing sycophancy to get the best of him.

Some social media users have described Adesina's statement as "shitty".

Meanwhile, the general overseer of the Ark of Covenant Total Life Ministries, Prophet Isaac Itodo, has alleged that the Christian Association of Nigeria leadership has been enmeshed in playing politics and fraternizing with political opponents of the present administration.

Itodo said that the association alongside the opposition is involved in heating the polity in Nigeria at the detriment of uniting the body of Christ in Nigeria.
