After his release from prolonged detention in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), the former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has made his first appearance in court.

Dasuki was at the Federal High Court in Abuja to face his trial on charges of money laundering and illegal possession of firearms filed against him.

During the trial, the former NSA was said to appear more confident and composed and even refused to take a seat when offered one by Justice Ahmed Mohammed before who he appeared on Thursday, January 23, The Nation reports.

During the hearing, Dasuki's lawyer, Olukayode Ariwoola, withdrew applications filed to the court in protest to his earlier prolonged detention, a move which was not objected to by the prosecution counsel, Dipo Okpeseyi.

Following this, Justice Mohammed adjourned the case to Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12, for hearing.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Dasuki was released by the DSS following the order from the attorney-general of the federation and justice minister, Abubakar Malami.

His eventual release was confirmed by his lawyer, Ahmed Raji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Legit.ng reported that the DSS was earlier ordered by the federal government to release Dasuki and the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore. Malami made this public in a statement on Tuesday, December 24, 2019.

Legit.ng gathered that Malami said the decision to release them was in compliance with the bail granted the two by the court.

Moreover, Omoyele Sowore, an activist and journalist, in the evening of the same Tuesday, spoke first time after leaving the facility of the DSS. Sowore was quoted as thanking Nigerians for supporting him and making his freedom happen.
