Stats reveal who had a better decade between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated world football in the last ten years without any close competition.

And as the end of the decade approaches, both superstars will be counting their laurels and their goals for both club and country.

The Barcelona talisman and the Juventus striker have played their last respective games for the decade and it ended well for Messi but otherwise for Ronaldo.

1. Club goals Messi 522 - 478 Ronaldo

Messi has averaged over 52 goals in a calendar while his rival Ronaldo is averaging just under 48-goals-per-year. The Barcelona star man is 50 goals ahead of his opposite number.

Messi's best year for his club came in 2012 where he scored 79 while Ronaldo's was in 2013, scoring 59 strikes for Real Madrid.

As much as they love to score goals they also love to provide assists for their teammates, but Messi is 65 assists ahead of Ronaldo.

3. Club trophies (Messi 23 - 17 Ronaldo)

Seven out of ten seasons Barcelona won La Liga titles including the Copa Del and two Champions League trophies.

But Ronaldo won three league titles with Real Madrid and Juventus including four Champions League trophies.

4. International goals (Ronaldo 77 - 57 Messi)

Ronaldo has been way better than Messi on the international scene scoring 20 more goals more than the Argentine.

5. International trophies (Ronaldo 2-0 Messi)

Ronaldo helped Portugal with the 2016 European championships and the UEFA Nations League in 2018 while Messi is still looking for his first trophy for his country.

He helped Argentine qualify into the World Cup finals and two Copa America finals, losing all three of them.

6. Ballon d'Or trophies (Messi 5 - 4 Cristiano Ronaldo)

Messi recently won his sixth Ballon d'Or trophy getting one better off Ronaldo in total but during the decade its still at 5-4 to the Argentine.
