PDP asks APC to refund N40bn allegedly diverted from FIRS to fund 2019 campaigns

- The PDP has accused the APC of diverting N40 billion from the FIRS to finance its 2019 campaigns

- The opposition party claimed that the reports of the alleged diversion of the N40 billion were available in the public

- Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP's spokesman, said the APC has been indicted and should come clean by refunding the alleged N40 billion to the public coffers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to come clean on the allegations that it diverted taxpayers' money to fund its campaigns in the 2019 elections.

According to the PDP, there are allegations flying around that the ruling party diverted N40 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to finance its 2019 campaigns.

A statement made available by the spokesperson of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Monday, December 16, said the alleged diversion of public funds vindicated the opposition's stand that the APC is diverting the public funds meant for the development of the country for its own use.

The PDP claimed that some top leaders of the APC were used as a conduit to take the money from the FIRS, adding that some chieftains of the ruling party got up to N3 billion each.

The opposition party said such an allegation must not be allowed to go under the carpet, adding the APC should refund the money.

"Our party submits that since the APC has been overtly indicted, it should come clean by refunding the N40 billion to the public coffers from where it should be channeled to job creation projects without further delay," the statement partly reads.
