Kano tribunal verdict: Truth has been vindicated - Ganduje

- Ganduje said the tribunal has confirmed that the APC’s verdict at the polls was genuine

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano has described his victory at the Kano State Election Petitions Tribunal as a vindication of the truth.

Ganduje made the assertion in a statement signed by his press secretary, Alhaji Abba Anwar, The Sun reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Anwar quoted the governor as saying: “When the election was held, we won and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) decided to challenge our victory in an election tribunal. It is clear to all now that our victory is genuine, as has just been confirmed by the tribunal.”

The petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate in the Kano governorship election, Alhaji Abbaa Kabiru Yusuf, seeking to nullify Ganduje’s election had been dismissed by the tribunal.

In it judgment, the tribunal panel which was presided over by Justice Halima Shamaki, held that

the petitioners failed to discharge the legal burden of proof that would have caused the panel to cancel the election.

Reacting in the court premises after the judgment, the Kano PDP chairman, Rabiu Bichi, said the party would go home and look at the tribunal’s judgment before taking a decision on what to do next.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari asked the governors of Kano and Plateau, Abdullahi Ganduje and Simon Lalong, respectively, to now focus more on inclusive governments in their states.

In his congratulatory message moments after their election victories were affirmed by the states’ tribunals, President Buhari extended his goodwill to them, just before leaving the country.

A statement by Garba Shehu, a spokesperson for Buhari, said the president described the verdict of the tribunals as a victory for democracy.
