Baby factory: Police rescue 19 pregnant girls in Lagos

- The police command in Lagos have discovered a baby factory in the Ikotun area of the state

- Officers of the force also rescued not less than 19 pregnant girls in the detention camp where the young females were hidden

- Among the suspects arrested were care givers, nurse to the captors and the operators of the hotels in which the pregnant girls were lodged

A baby factory in a detention camp in the Ikotun area of Lagos, has been uncovered by the police command in the state after weeks of close monitoring and utilisation of intelligence reports.

Police officers also rescued 19 pregnant girls (between the ages of 15 and 28 years) and a day-old-baby.

The policemen were able to arrest the care givers, nurse to the captors and the operators of the hotels in which the pregnant girls were hidden, Channels TV reports.

Narrating her bitter experience, Hope Bright, one of the captive girls, from Rivers, whose two-year-old child was taken from her, said: “As I reached there, the woman checked me. Suddenly, my stomach started kicking me.

"From there, they said that I will born. They took me to the hospital, God helped me I delivered that child, but the baby died. They collected the baby from me, I did not see that child again."

Moreover, one of the arrested suspects, speaking to journalists during interrogation, confessed: “At the spot, madam searched my hotel and discovered four women with pregnancy and one baby.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the government of Lagos had unveiled general details of a new security system that the state has just adopted to combat the increasing cases of kidnapping and oil pipeline vandalization in the region.

The new structure was announced by Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after a security meeting with relevant stakeholders on Sunday, August 4.
