The popular media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, is offering to help African women with her influence, money and platform.

According to Global Citizens, Winfrey has said she is using the Oprah Winfrey Foundation to launch a fellowship to empower African women who are in public service sector.

The fellowship comes with the opportunity for the women to study tuition free at New York University’s Wagner graduate school of public service.

With the empowerment, Oprah is hoping there would be more Africa-centred solutions to some of the serious issues facing the world.

It should, however, be noted that the fellowship is not for those wanting to advance their professional career.

Top of the conditions for applicants is that they must be citizens of an African country, have a good track record of commitment to public service, and an impressive academic history.

It is also of great importance that applicants must be willing to return to their countries at the end of the fellowship and contribute in key areas needing their expertise.

By Monday, December 2, interested candidates must submit an essay, a one-minute video and fill out an application form on the foundation’s website.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by Skype with the selection committee in February 2020.
