Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo: Nigerian Army performs to wide applause

- The contingent performed to classical songs like Eddie Quansah and Me I Like My Country

- At the parade ground, the military officers performed excellently alongside participants from other countries and received loud ovation

The Nigerian Army was invited to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (REMT) for a military procession.

This was made known by President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on digital communications, Tolu Ogunlesi.

Ogunlesi said that the military process is still on-going and that he has no idea who made the video but that it is beautiful to watch.

He also added that the first song played by the Nigerian contingent is titled Eddie Quansah which was on the Abiriwa album released in 1973 by the Peacocks International Guitar Band of Owerri.

The Nigerian military also performed to Me I Like My Country which was composed by Mandy Brown Ojugbana when she was 16.

The REMT is a yearly annual series that has British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and international military bands.

It is no wonder therefore that the nation's military was there, as one of the members of the Commonwealth community.

The tattoo word in the procession's name is derived from the 17th century Dutch phrase which translates to “turn off the tap”. The term was always used to signal the military to switch off their light and retire to their camp beds at night. The first REMT was organised in 1969 with the term Something About a Soldier.

It is customary for the event to come yearly throughout the month of August and has never been changed irrespective of the weather condition.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, the chief of Army staff, demanded that officers and men of the Nigerian Army be absolutely loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The army chief gave the charge in Abuja on Wednesday, July 31, while declaring open the fifth edition of a three-day procurement seminar for commandants, bursars and administrative officers of Command Secondary Schools.
