RevolutionNow: Heavily armed security men at new protest venue in Lagos

- Fierce-looking security men have reportedly made presence at the 'Freedom Park' in Lagos and its surroundings

- The park is the venue of the rescheduled protest organisaed by the #RevolutionNow movement

- None of the protesters or their supporters is seen around the venue currently taken over by soldiers

Reports say heavily armed security men have taken over the ‘Freedom Park’ venue of the re-scheduled RevolutionNow protest in the Ojota area of Lagos state.

The ‘Freedom Park’ named after the late legal icon, Gani Fawehinmi, has always been a venue for protest by civil rights activists in the state.

This Day, however, reports the heavy presence of soldiers at all the entrances to the park.

It was learnt that security has also been beefed up around the park while protesters are yet to arrive the place.

Legit.ng earlier reported how fierce-looking soldiers and armed policemen on Monday, August 5, forcefully dispersed members of the #RevolutionNow movement who converged at the National Stadium in Surulere area of Lagos state.

The protesters, who arrived at the stadium around 7am for the kick-off of the protest, met a detachment of policemen at the entrance of the stadium.

It was also reported how the presidency, in the evening of Monday, August 5, reacted to the protest by the #RevolutionNow movement claiming that it failed because Nigerians did not support it.

The presidency also thanked Nigerians for supporting President Muhammadu Buhari during this period.

A statement by Garba Shehu, one of the president’s spokespersons, said Buhari was humbled by the massive support he received from Nigerians while the protest lasted.
