Naira Marley arrest: EFCC slams rapper with 11-count charge

The Economic Financial Crimes and Commission (EFCC) has revealed that rapper, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, is to be arraigned on 11-count charge on Monday, May 20.

On Friday, May 10, rapper Marley had been arrested by the commission over internet fraud allegations. It was later reported that the rapper had been found with incriminating laptop device that proves he is involved in internet fraud.

However, while Marley was still in EFCC custody, Legit.ng had reported that the rapper's management had claimed that he had borrowed the implicating laptop found on him at the time of the arrest.

The commission stated that the 11 charges is bordering on fraud for alleged credit card fraud. In a statement, it was revealed that the credit cards bore the names Nicole Louise Malyon. and Timea Fedorne Tatar.

It was gathered that the charges, with suit number FHC/L/178C/19, were filed this Thursday, May 16, before a Lagos State High Court.

The charges read: “That you, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and Raze (still at large), on or about the 11th day of December 2018, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, conspired amongst yourselves to use Access card 42658840359191132 issued to persons other than you in a bid to obtain gain and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27(1)(b) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act 2015 and punishable under Section 33(2) of the Same Act.

That you, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and Raze (still at large), on or about the 10th day of May 2019, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, with intent to defraud possessed, counterfeit card 4921819410257431 issued to Timea Fedorne Tatar and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 33(9) of Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act 2015."

The commission also shared a photo evidence of the rapper's signature after he personally signed and collected his charge sheet ahead of his arraignment on Monday.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the other rapper Zlatan Ibile who was arrested alongside Naira Marley had been released. The rapper reportedly regained his freedom with others who were arrested.
