Prophet Bushiri and his wife get arrested for fraud and money laundering

Controversial Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has allegedly been arrested for 'fraud and money laundering' on Friday, February 1.

According to a statement by his church, Bushiri and his wife have been taken into custody by the police on grounds of fraud and money laundering.

Eyewitness news reported the arrest came only hours after the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) found Bushiri was not responsible for the stampede at his church, which resulted in the death of three people.

The CRL commission found his church was not in violation of the safety regulations, and therefore, he could not be held accountable for incident.

However, now that the stampede was no longer a concern, the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECG) leader faces new challenges.

Social media users had earlier accused the prophet of swindling them out of thousands of money. Several South Africans came forward to share stories of how they allegedly lost money to Bushiri.

It is unclear whether or not these stories have any connection to the recent alleged charges against Bushiri.

Prophet Bushiri has had his share of alleged scandal in the past. Legit.ng had reported that a Nigerian family had accused him and his church of holding on to a body, a few months ago. The prophet had been accused of holding the body after they tried to resurrect him.
