More Nigerians from 6 states to benefit from youth support programme YESSO

- Youth Employment and Support Operation said it is planning to open social registers across six state in the country

- According to its national coordinator, the new six states will include Akwa Ibom, Abia, Kaduna and Kebbi

- The coordinator, Hajara Sami, said the programme will be targeted at reducing poverty and unemployment rate among youth

A World Bank assisted programme, Youth Employment and Support Operation (YESSO), said it is planning to open social registers across six states in the country.

In a report available in The Guardian, the acting national coordinator of YESSO, Hajara Sami, said that the programme will be targeted at the poor people in the proposed states.

Legit.ng gathers that YESSO is currently operating in Adamawa, Bauchi, Cross River, Borno, Ekiti, Kogi, Niger, Gombe, Kwara, Taraba, Osun, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe and Ondo states.

According to Sami, the new six states will include Akwa Ibom, Abia, Kaduna and Kebbi. She added that the programme will accommodate and reduce poverty on less-privileged people, especially those affected by Boko Haram terrorism in the northeast.

The acting coordinator also revealed that the initiative is committed to help poor people with cash transfer and reduce the biting level of unemployment in the country.

She said: “We have paid N30,000 to 11,000 households in the first phase and N20,000 to those want to relocate to new locations, while N100,000 is meant for people with resettlement needs.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that allegations that the ongoing Trader Moni programme being implemented by the federal government and the Bank of Industry to empower petty traders was aimed at buying votes in 2019 general elections was dismissed by the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo.

Osinbajo maintained that the programme was not a vote-buying measure employed by President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the election.
