Ex-minister Okonjo-Iweala meets President Buhari at AU summit
Photographs released by the presidency in the evening of Sunday, June 1, confirmed a rare meeting between former finance minister and coordinator of the economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Muhammadu Buhari in Mauritania.
Buhari, Nigeria’s president, was in Mauritania for the African Union summit after an earlier visit to Katsina, his home state.
Okonjo-Iweala was the coordinator of the economy in the government of former president, Goodluck Jonathan. She also served as finance minister in the administration of Olusegun Obasanjo.

This is one of the first set of photographs that would feature the duo since 2015 when Jonathan was defeated in an election that ushered in the government of Buhari.
Some office holders in the immediate past government have been accused of looting the treasury of the country.
Some of these officials are currently in court, arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, July 2, in Nouakchott, Mauritania called on nations where looted assets have been stashed to release them without the usually long technicalities involved in the process of repatriation.
A statement by Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesperson, said President Buhari spoke during his introductory remarks as the leader of the African Union shortly before the commencement of the debate on the African anti-corruption year.

President Buhari said: “We must all collectively work to place high on the agenda the need for open and participatory government, as well as the repatriation of stolen assets without procedural technicalities and legal obstacles.
“During the last 6 months, we have engaged in multi-sectoral dialogue with a broad range of actors including parliamentarians, national anti-corruption agencies, civil society, media, youth and women groups and development partners. We have convened three (3) different regional consultative workshops in line with my campaign programme in an effort to sensitize our people on the evil effects of corruption on our societies."
