FG bans private consultants from training security guards

The training of personnel of Private Security Guard Companies (PGC) by private consultants has been outlawed by the federal government.

The commandant general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, on Thursday, June 21, in Abuja said the decision was prompted by security challenges in the country, Daily Trust reports.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training programme for chief executive officers and directors of private security guard companies, the NSCDC boss noted that the training of private security outfits will now be closely monitored by the government.

“To achieve the objective of closely monitoring training of personnel of Private Guards Companies, I have approved the use of the Corps' training facilities spread across the country,” he said.

He said many security challenges facing the country had overstretched the capacity of government's security agencies and that it had become necessary to reposition the private security guards sector to enable it play a more effective role in the emerging national security strategy.

He noted that the reform in the private security guards sector is intended to be deep and far reaching as it will achieve the government objectives and benefit the society including practitioners in the sector.

In another report, the Department of State Services (DSS) said it had arrested two Islamic State in West Africa commanders in Kukuntu village, Gwgwalada, Abuja.

Legit.ng gathered an operative of the service, Tony Opuiyo, in a statement issued on Thursday, June 21, in Abuja, said the suspects were arrested on May 5, after special operations on identified targets.

He said that in a related operation on April 28, the service also arrested one Umar Dogo, a suspected member of ISWA at Muda Lawal market in Bauchi.

Opuiyo said the suspects were discovered to have concluded plans to perpetuate the ideals of the group in the area, and in collaboration with Boko Haram, carry out heinous violent attacks on innocent persons.
