Just in: Ekiti deputy speaker Segun Adewunmi impeached

Just at the time a member of the Gombe state House of Assembly caused drama when he stole the mace and escaped, the deputy speaker in Ekiti was on Thursday, May 24, impeached by his colleagues during plenary.

Premium Times reports that Segun Adewunmi was removed from office in a decision that was not surprising to many since he was already marked for sanction over his alleged activities in the House.

The report said a new deputy speaker, Shina Animashaun, was elected to replace him.

In recent times, there has been a gale of crises in states and the National Assembly.

Legit.ng earlier reported that members of Kano state House of Assembly recently voted to impeach the speaker of the house, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf Ata.

It was gathered that the vote to impeach Ata was secretly done on Sunday night, May 13.

Reports said that 21 lawmakers have signed in support of the impeachment and a source confirmed that already the principal officers of the house had been impeached having got the 21 lawmakers to sign for their impeachment.

In 2017, there was also the reported impeachment of the Delta State House of Assembly speaker, Monday Igbuya.

Igbuya was reportedly impeached in the early hours of Thursday, May 11, during a session of the state House of Assembly session.
