- Governor Ayo Fayose has alleged that the APC has hatched a fresh plot to rig the upcoming Ekiti governorship election
- He alleged that the APC is is planning to use students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, to carry out its plan
- Fayose however stated that the plan would not succeed
The governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a fresh plot to rig the July 14 gubernatorial poll.
He made the allegation on Friday, May 18, while addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, Independent reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Fayose claimed that in order to perfect the plot, the ruling party is working in connivance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He further alleged that instead of using youth corp members, the APC is planning to use students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) as INEC ad-hoc staff for the election, to carry out its plan.
The governor pointed out that the vice chancellor of FUOYE, Prof Kayode Soremekun, is a card carrying member of the APC and a close ally of the party’s candidate, Kayode Fayemi, who is also a former governor of the state.
Fayose also described President Muhammadu Buhari’s comment that the Ekiti 2014 governorship election was characterized by “hanky panky”, as unfortunate.
He said: “The idea behind this plot is to recruit APC members from neighbouring states, arm them with FUOYE students identity cards and use them as INEC presiding and returning officers to perfect the planned rigging of the election. This will fail.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Prince Uche Secondus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that if the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti state is rigged, there will be crisis.
He made the statement at the flag-off of the party’s local government election campaign in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state.
Secondus made reference to the Kaduna local government elections, and said the Ekiti poll will be a litmus test.
