There are millions of Nigerians that are not corrupt - Dogara tells Buhari

- Yakubu Dogara has said that many Nigerians are corrupt-free

- He said these Nigerians who have "not bowed their knees to the god of corruption" are scattered all over the globe

- According to the speaker, President Buhari is not alone in the fight against corruption

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday, May 15, said there many Nigerians who are also corrupt-free aside President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dogara said a million of corrupt-free Nigerians are spread across the globe.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new corporate headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja, the speaker commended the president for winning a global stand for his hard stance against corruption.

Dogara said: “The fact that we have seated here, before us a president whose global acclaim has been corrupt free, I can tell you that he is not alone in Nigeria. There are millions of Nigerians that we come across day by day that are corrupt-free.

"There is a representation of history, a prophet cried to God and said there was only one man that has not bowed his knees to Baal, but God replied to that prophet, saying that he has reserved several others in that city who have not bowed their knees to Baal.

"There are millions of Nigerians that have not bowed their knees to the god of corruption and that fact must be emphasized."

He also said that the construction of the EFCC headquarters is a demonstration of the federal government's commitment to the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Dogara urged the federal government to begin to place emphasis on staff and officials of the commission whose trust and sacrifice are critical to the entire anti-corruption war.

“Mr. President, we have the responsibility to insulate the officers and men of this agency from temptation and that means we have to better their condition of service," he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the President had said he was removed from office as Nigeria's military head of state in 1985 for fighting corruption. The president said he was detained for three years for the same purpose.

He also said that all the funds recovered from looters during his military regime were returned to the individuals while he was in detention.
