Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored a side-volley similar to the acrobatic goal he netted against Juventus in the Champions League quarter finals first leg tie.

The 33-year-old was set up by a teammate in training as he threw his body to unleash a side-volley to score a fantastic goal.

Ronaldo did not travel with Los Blancos side that had a comfortable 2-1 win against Malaga in La Liga at the weekend.

But he is expected to feature in the match against visiting Atletic Bilbao at the Bernabeu on Wednesday then play Sevilla away from home in another encounter at the weekend.

Zinedine Zidane's team are 15 points off their bitter rivals Barcelona and four behind Atletico Madrid as they continue their push to finish strongly in the league.

Ronaldo has 23 goals in La Liga and 15 strikes in the Champions League so far this season and with six games left to play the talisman is expected to make more headlines this season.

The Bernabeu side have been pitched against last year's quarter final opponents Bayern Munich in the semi finals of this season's campaign.

Real Madrid were awarded a controversial penalty by referee Michael Oliver in the third minute of regulation time as Gianluigi Buffon was sent off in the process.

Ronaldo stepped up to convert the nervy spot-kick as Real lost 3-1 on the night but made it through with a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

The controversy led to threat on social media directed to the referee, and his wife Lucy, who are both match officials in England as the police have stepped into the matter to offer the couples security support.
