PMB for 2019 - Nigerians react to Buhari's second term reelection bid

President Muhammadu Buhari's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, on Monday, April 9, disclosed that the president officially announced his intention to seek reelection in 2019.

The issue of whether Buhari would run for the 2019 presidency had been a subject of debate in the public, with political analysts insisting that his body language was in the affirmative, especially as various support groups were drumming support for him.

Recall that while attending the 5th European Union-African Union (EU-AU) Summit in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, the president gave a hint that suggested he would likely run for another term.

However, some Nigerians have taken to social media in support of the president's decisions while others have lambasted him, noting that President Buhari said he wasn't going to run for a second term.

In a previous report by, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, said President Muhammadu Buhari is more focused on delivering on his campaign promises and does not want to be distracted about re-contesting election in 2019.

The minister on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, told the Leadership newspaper in Abuja that Buhari was more committed to fulfilling his election promises to Nigerians and does not want to be distracted by politics.

“Mr President is much more concerned about delivering the campaign promises of the current administration, and don’t want to be distracted. As government, our major concern is delivering the promises of the current administration. At the end of the day what we will campaign with is our achievements," Mohammed said.
