2019: INEC warns Atiku, Bindow against erecting campaign billboards

- INEC has warned Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow to stop erecting campaign billboards for the 2019 election

- INEC’s Resident Commissioner for Adamawa state, Kassim Gaidam, disclosed that the duo are contravening the Electoral Act by putting up billboards before the scheduled time for campaigns to proceed

- He further appealed to political parties to carry out awareness campaigns to enable voters collect their voters cards

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow have been warned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), against erecting campaign billboards.

According to The Guardian, the duo were warned by the electoral commission, that their actions have contravened the Electoral Act.

Legit.ng gathers that the development was disclosed by Kassim Gaidam, INEC Resident Commissioner for Adamawa state, who spoke at a stakeholders meeting in Yola on Friday, January 26.

Gaidam stated that Atiku and Bindow are engaging in massive campaign billboards ahead of the scheduled time for campaigns for the 2019 elections.

Gaidam further stated that the election timetable announced by INEC has not been changed, and the commissions’ powers to design election activities have not been voided by any new legislation.

He further appealed to political parties to carry out awareness campaigns to enable voters collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs), even as he disclosed that 94,766 cards are yet to be collected by their owners.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that photos emerged on social media, showing a fleet of campaign buses carrying Atiku Abubakar’s face in Niger state.

The photos were uploaded by a Facebook user, Comrade Abdulsalam Isah Kolo in Minna.

The minivans were equipped with generating sets and speakers among other things. They also bore the PDP's umbrella logo with the inscription 'Yes, Atiku for Nigeria 2019'.
