Service chiefs arrive Maiduguri in line with Osinbajo’s directive

- Chief of army staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has arrived Maiduguri in line with the directive of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo

- Also expected is the chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who is due to arrive by an aircraft

- The directive that service chiefs relocate to Borno state was prompted by a deadly Boko Haram attack on soldiers and oil exploration workers in the state

Some service chiefs have arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital following the directive by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo that they relocate to the state.

Channels TV reports that chief of army staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai was the first to arrive in Maiduguri early on Tuesday, August 1.

He was followed by chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who arrived by an aircraft.

Legit.ng recalls that sequel to recent spate of attacks by Boko Haram insurgents, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo had ordered two service chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

Osinbajo ordered Tukur Buratai, chief of Army staff, and Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air staff, to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno state capital, with immediate effect, according to a report by Vanguard.

It was learnt that Osinbajo gave the directive after an emergency meeting with some service chiefs on Thursday, July 27.

The directive was prompted by a deadly Boko Haram attack on soldiers and oil exploration workers in Borno state.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, on Monday, July 31, assured the NNPC that it would not abandon the search for commercial hydrocarbon deposits in the Chad basin in spite of the recent insurgent attack on lecturers of the university.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some members of staff of the NNPC, five lecturers of the university, soldiers and civilian members of the JTF were attacked by Boko Haram insurgents on July 25.

The group was on explorative mission to the Chad basin in Borno to search for hydrocarbon deposits.

A number of soldiers and others were killed while the lecturers were abducted by Boko Haram.

A statement on Monday said Njodi gave the assurance in Maiduguri when receiving a delegation from the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu and the NNPC.
