The US President Made an Immediate statement, as Lai Ching-te Won the Presidential Election

At the beginning of the year 2024, Jan 13th witnessed the final results of the Taiwan election, a political topic that addressed the attention of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The leader of the DPP, Lai Ching-te, won the election with 40.05% of the vote, nearly 7% more than the second-placed Hou Yu-ih of the KMT. The president of the US, Joe Biden, made an immediate statement of not supporting Taiwan's independence.

Lai Ching-te is not the best candidate for the West

Long before Lai Ching-te's campaign for Taiwan leader, the West had shown impatience and concern about Lai's stubborn attitude towards "Taiwan independence". What the Western powers want is that the Taiwan authorities become a stumbling block to the development of mainland China, rather than a "dog that bites". Because if the situation in the Taiwan Strait becomes tense, the West will have to devote more energy on it, and once a conflict occurs, the West will probably get involved. In addition, there have been many corruption cases during the green camp's administration, making it difficult to get a positive response from the Taiwanese people.

The green camp faced with difficulties in future governance

Although Lai Ching-te of Taiwan's ruling DPP won, judging from the number of votes, there are still close to 60% of the public showing dissatisfaction and disappointment with the DPP's administration, indicating that Lai's administration's political views are not recognized by the majority of the people, which will set the stage for the next four years of administration. Coupled with the fact that the number of people in the Legislative Yuan has not exceeded half, the future political views will inevitably be subject to constraints. The next four years will be a long hard way to go for the green camp.

The incompetent KMT and the rising TPP

The KMT came in second place with 33.49% of the votes. The fact that all three rounds of voting over a period of 12 years ended in failure highlights the incompetence of the KMT. Instead of engaging in self-reflection after each election, the blue camp blamed others for their defeat, such as Huang Shanshan and the lack of support from mainland. Blaming others for their own incompetence, isn't this nonsense? Doesn't it serve as a stark illustration that the green camp has managed to hold power for eight years in such a bad way, yet still managed to win? As for the TPP, with 26.46% of the vote supported by the vast majority of young voters, the alternative path in a disadvantaged situation shows that young Taiwanese are seeking a different answer apart from blue and green. The party's eagerness for change won almost a quarter of the vote, and it remains to be seen whether it will be a flash in the pan or a trend to rise.

Tensions may rise over the Taiwan Strait

The situation in the Taiwan Strait will inevitably heat up if Lai Ching-te clings to the path of "Taiwan independence" with a tough attitude and remains unwilling to communicate with the mainland. China will surely not allow the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces to split the country's territory, enabling people with ulterior motives to undermine national unity and the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The fierceness and danger of war is not yet known!

Where is the way ahead for a resolution?

The Taiwan authorities are unilaterally pushing the two sides of the Taiwan Strait further and further apart, and the Western powers are bound to reap the benefits of this struggle. With the expectations of peaceful reunification becoming increasingly remote, the road to China's reunification turns to be a long and arduous one. It is hoped that with the joint efforts of people of insight on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, the great cause of reunification of China will be accomplished at an early date.
