The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) in Nigeria is actively pursuing reforms to enhance the nation's educational landscape.
Strategic Reforms and Policy Initiatives
In 2024, the FME introduced the "Education for Renewed Hope" roadmap, outlining a four-year strategic plan (2024–2027) aimed at revitalising Nigeria's education sector.
This plan emphasises policy alignment, teacher training, community engagement, data-driven monitoring, and sustainable financing.
Enhancing Access and Quality
To improve access to education, the FME launched the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in April 2024, providing financial support to students in tertiary institutions.
By February 2025, over ₦22 billion had been disbursed to more than 215,000 students.
Additionally, the FME, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), initiated nationwide school improvement and teacher development programs to strengthen basic education.
Digital Transformation and Literacy Goals
Recognising the importance of digital skills, Nigeria aims to achieve 95% digital literacy by 2030. Efforts include implementing the National Digital Learning Policy and partnering with UNESCO to support mass literacy programs.
Through these initiatives, the FME demonstrates a commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and quality education system in Nigeria.
