This latest setback casts doubt on his availability for PSG’s next games.

The Parisians return from the international break on September 14 against Lens in Ligue 1, before beginning their Champions League defence against Atalanta three days later.

Whether Enrique will be on the sidelines for either match remains uncertain.

A look at Enrique's achievements at PSG

Since joining PSG in the summer of 2023, Enrique has delivered success on nearly every front.

Under Enrique, the Parisians secured back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and French Cups, and the crowning moment came last season when PSG lifted their first-ever Champions League trophy after a remarkable 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Munich final.

Earlier this year, the Spaniard also led them to the final of the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, narrowly losing to Chelsea, BBC reports.

The club’s statement emphasised their solidarity with the manager during his recovery period.

“The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course,” PSG said.

What lies ahead for PSG

Enrique’s absence would be a major blow to PSG ahead of a demanding stretch of the season.

The upcoming Champions League group stage is particularly significant, with PSG looking to build on their historic victory last season.

PSG have started the current campaign strongly, winning all three of their Ligue 1 matches and lifting the UEFA Super Cup after beating Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur on penalties.

Enrique was in the dugout last on August 30, overseeing a 6-3 victory over Toulouse in which Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves scored a fantastic hat-trick.

For Enrique, the challenge now is to focus on his rehabilitation and return to the touchline as quickly as possible.
