According to The Athletic, Newcastle rejected a British record fee of £120 million, insisting the player is not for sale, particularly after losing Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko to Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Toons went into the game full of passion and emotion, but were down to 10 men when Anthony Gordon was sent off, and they were down 2-0 early in the second half.

Supercomputer predicts Premier League winner

According to Opta Analyst, the Reds are backed to retain their Premier League title, while Arsenal are predicted to finish second for a fourth consecutive season.

Manchester City are predicted to finish third, while world champions Chelsea are predicted to retain their position from last season and finish fourth.

Manchester United, despite investing over £200 million in their attack, are predicted by the supercomputer to finish in 12th position, and their start to the season suggests that could happen.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal are the only teams with a perfect start to the season, but a worrying sign has emerged for the champions that could derail their chances of winning the title.

Though Arne Slot's side have scored the most goals (7) this season, only Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham have conceded more goals than them.

Liverpool have conceded four goals, two each against AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle in their opening two games, which raises concern about their defence.

The Reds have invested heavily in the market this season, including in defence, where they have signed Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni.

However, their defensive performance is not title-winning level, and their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi should be a priority in the final days of the window.

Fans, including rivals, believe it could be Arsenal’s year as the Gunners are yet to concede this season and have scored six goals against Manchester United and Leeds United.
