Mohamed Salah has criticised the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) over their tribute to the late Suleiman Al-Obeid, who died on Wednesday, August 6.

The Liverpool star expressed displeasure with the manner the body addressed the death surrounding the football star.

How did Al-Obeid die?

Former Palestinian national football star Suleiman Al-Obeid was killed during an attack by Israeli forces in southern Gaza while waiting near an aid distribution centre.

According to Al Jazeera, the Palestinian Football Association described Al-Obeid as one of the best players to have played for the national team.

The PFA revealed that the football star was labelled "Pele of Palestinian football" due to his longevity and valuable contribution to the growth of the sport. The statement read:

“Former national team player and star of the Khadamat al-Shati team, Suleiman Al-Obeid, was martyred after the Israeli occupation forces targeted individuals waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday."

Al-Obeid's contribution to Palestinian football

Suleiman Al-Obeid is one of the few players who have played for club sides within the country.

According to CNN, the 41-year-old played for Khadamat Al-Shatea in Gaza before joining Markaz Shabab Al-Am'ari in the West Bank and Gaza Sport.

The winger played 24 times with the national team, scoring two goals, including the most famous of which was a scissor kick against Yemen during the 2010 West Asian Football Federation Championship."

Egyptian legend Mohamed Salah has criticised UEFA for omitting the cause of death for Suleiman Al-Obeid.

According to The Guardian, the Liverpool forward questioned the rationale behind not furnishing the football community with what transpired in Palestine. UEFA said:

"Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the 'Palestinian Pelé'. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times."

Salah responded:

"Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?"
