Cristiano Ronaldo may not wear the captain's arm-band to help Portugal begin the defence of their UEFA Nations League title against Croatia, reports claim.
The Juventus striker will not be in the squad when his country takes on the eastern European side in their first game.
According to Italian news media outlet Football Italia, the injury to Ronaldo's favorite right-foot was caused by a bee sting.
It is understood that the infection caused by the bee sting has kept the 35-year-old from training with his international teammates over the last few days.
Portugal boss Fernando Santos confirmed the former Real Madrid star was struggling with his fitness in his press conference.
Santos said: "I am very doubtful that he will be 100 per cent OK.
"He had been training well, then suddenly on Wednesday one of his toes was red, as if he’d been stung by a bee.
"Now we have to wait.
"With an infection, you don’t know how long the recovery is going to take."
Portugal will play Croatia at home before travelling to play Sweden three days later and his 100th international goal will be put on hold at the moment.
