We Don't Need Van Persie - Sagna

Fullback Bacary Sagna believes the current Arsenal side has more attacking variety than the one led by Dutch striker Robin Van Persie.

Van Persie was the Gunners top scorer last season, claiming the Premier League's golden boot with 30 goals before moving north in the off-season to Manchester United where he has already scored 23 goals.

But Arsenal has overcome its Van Persie hangover according to Sagna, the Frenchman, believing the departure of the 30-year-old has allowed the squad to evolve into a more potent attacking force.

"We relied on Robin a lot last year," Sagna told The Sun. "He was in top form, he used to score in every game and he was our main striker.

"Now we have some diversity. Everyone can score and everyone can be dangerous. It's good for the team.

"It feels like they've always been here and they can score great goals at any time. Everyone is getting more confident."

And Sagna, who recently admitted to his own form slump, said one of the main reasons the North London club has been able to adapt so quickly was due to the introduction of compatriot Olivier Giroud.

The Arsenal new boy has already scored 14 goals this season, four goals behind top scorer Theo Walcott, and Sagna said the 26-year-old was the perfect example of how Arsenal has changed its attacking structure.

"He's totally different. Physically he's very strong and he has a different style," Sagna said of Giroud.

"We used to play with Robin, who was skilful, and previously with Emmanuel Adebayor, who was tall but skinny. Giroud is a totally different striker and we can use him differently."
