FCT, Abuja - No fewer than six political appointees have resigned from the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet.

The ministers and appointees resigned before the Tuesday, March 31, 2026, deadline to contest for various positions in the 2027 elections.

As reported by The Punch, brlow are the six Tinubu’s appointees who resigned from their positions to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yusuf Tuggar

Minister of Foreign Affairs, resigned on Monday, March 30, 2026, to contest the 2027 governorship of Bauchi State under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yusuf Sununu

Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, resigned to allegedly position himself for political opportunities ahead of 2027 election.

A former lawmaker representing Ngaski/Shanga/Yauri Federal Constituency of Kebbi State.

Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali

The Minister of Transportation resigned on Tuesday after meeting with President Tinubu.

Alkali wants to contest the Gombe State governorship under the ruling APC.

Nasiru Gawuna

The former Kano State Deputy Governor resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

He wants to pursue his political ambitions and has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 election.

Abdulrazak Namdas

The Adamawa State indigene resigned from his role as a board member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)

Namdas represented the North-East in the NDDC.

He is reportedly preparing to contest the governorship election in his state.

Ahmed Galadima Aminu

He resigned as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)

Rauf Olaniyan

Former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, tendered his resignation letter on Monday, March 23, 2026.

He resigned as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, to pursue his 2027 governorship ambition

Olaniyan explained that his decision was to enable him contest for the APC governorship ticket in Oyo State.

Has Tinubu's Minister of Power Resigned?

Recall that President Bola Tinubu's power minister, Adebayo Adelabu, denied the report of his resignation from the cabinet following the presidential directive.

The minister's resignation report has been linked to his gubernatorial ambition in Oyo state, where he first gave a trial in the 2023 general elections.

Adelabu recently came under heavy criticism following a week-long power outage in the country, a situation he associated with a shortage of gas supply.
