Just In: Ex-Abia Deputy Governor Resigns from PDP, Cites Reason

The immediate past deputy governor of Abia state, Chief Ude Oko-Chukwu, has resigned as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter signed and addressed to the PDP chairman, Ndi Elu ward Nkporo Ohafia Local Government Area, on Friday, August 8, Oko-Chukwu stated that his resignation was for personal reasons.

Although the former deputy governor did not give any hint about his next political move, he, however, noted that the decision to leave the party was a difficult one for him to make, adding that it was the best course of action for him.

As reported by The Punch, the letter read in part:

“You may wish to note that I am resigning due to personal reasons, while it was a difficult decision to make, it is the best course of action for me at this time.
“I am grateful for the opportunity the party availed me to serve at various levels and appreciate the experience and knowledge gained during my membership of the party.
“Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter even as I wish you the best for the future.”

Oko-Chukwu who is also a former speaker of the Abia state House of Assembly also contested for tickets of PDP ticket for the 2023 governorship election in the state but lost to Chief Okey Ahaiwe.

It was observed that the letter was equally received and signed by one Ama Nwoke Ibe on behalf of PDP Ndi Elu ward Nkporo.

Meanwhile, the move came just days after the former deputy governor was seen visiting the current governor, Dr. Alex Otti, at government house, Umuahia, a meeting that sparked speculations about a possible realignment or political shift.

Fayose’s ex-deputy gov dumps PDP

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that a former deputy governor of Ekiti state, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, resigned his membership of the PDP in the state.

Olusola-Eleka revealed this in a letter dated July 24, addressed to the Okeruku Ward 2 chairman in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area of the state.

The ex-deputy governor hinged his decision on the party’s failure to provide a platform for credible opposition and leadership in the country.

Ex-NAFDAC DG dumps PDP for ADC

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that former director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Botwev Orhii, dumped the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Orhii, who contested the Benue state governorship ticket of the PDP in 2019 and 2023, announced his resignation in a letter made available to the press on Wednesday, July 30.
