Hon. Kabiru Lawal, popularly known as the Jagaban Zamfara and founder of the KLM Foundation, has been nominated for the 2026 Nigerian Humanitarian Awards and Magazine in recognition of his contributions to community development and humanitarian service.
The fifth edition of the awards is scheduled to hold from August 27 to 29, 2026 at Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, under the theme "United for Humanity." The programme includes the Nigerian Humanitarian Conference on August 28, bringing together stakeholders from the humanitarian, public, private and development sectors, before culminating in the Humanitarian Awards Night on August 29.

**KLM Foundation's Work in Zamfara**
Through the KLM Foundation, Lawal has backed initiatives covering education, healthcare, youth empowerment and community development, with projects reaching communities across Zamfara State. Organisers described him as a philanthropist whose focus goes beyond one-off assistance towards building long-term opportunities for young people and strengthening communities from within.
Emmanuel Anabueze, founder of the Nigerian Humanitarian Awards and Magazine, explained that the decision to nominate Lawal was grounded in the concrete impact of his community-facing work rather than his public title or profile.
"Kabiru Lawal has demonstrated that influence becomes meaningful when it is used to improve lives. We are not recognising him simply because of his title or public profile. We are recognising the commitment to people, the investment in communities and the willingness to stand with those who need support," Anabueze said.
**'Courage to See a Problem'**
Anabueze also used Lawal's nomination to speak to the broader mission of the awards platform, arguing that genuine humanitarian work demands consistency and courage above all else.
"Humanitarianism is not about waiting for perfect conditions before you act. It is about having the courage to see a problem, the compassion to care about it and the determination to do something about it. That is the spirit we seek to celebrate through these awards," he said.
He added that the fifth edition would continue to spotlight impact over status, drawing attention to Nigerians whose community contributions rarely attract national coverage.
"There are Nigerians doing remarkable work in communities that may never make the headlines. Our role is to identify those stories and give them the platform they deserve.
