No less than five worshippers have been killed by bandits in an attack on a mosque during the early morning prayer at the Yandoto village in the Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state.
The attack reportedly happened in the early hours of Friday, September and has landed the community in a wave of shock.

How bandits attacked Zamfara village
Daily Trust reported that eyewitnesses narrated that the gunmen opened fire on the worshippers indiscriminately as they stormed the most. Five people were reportedly killed immediately, and several people sustained gunshot wounds.

One of the residents who spoke to journalists but did not want to be named for security concerns disclosed that an unspecified number of worshippers were also abducted before escaping through the nearby forest.
The resident described the attack as "barbaric and inhuman", adding that some of the injured victims are now receiving medical treatment and responding well.
Police speak on bandit attack in Zamfara
DSP Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson of the state police command, when contacted about the attack, said he had yet to be briefed about what happened by the Divisional Police Officer, who was in charge of the area.
The attack came barely a week after a similar attack happened in the Gidan Turbe villa, also in the Tsafe LGA. About 40 worshippers were said to have been kidnapped during a down prayer as well.
In another tragic event, more than 100 illegal miners were said to have been feared dead after a gold pit collapsed in the Kadauri village, Maru local government area of Zamfara state.

Miners died in Zamfara
According to the source, the pit caved in on Thursday, September 25, and scores of miners were trapped. The situation became worse when efforts were made to rescue those reportedly trapped, and this increased the casualties. Many of the rescuers were said to have suffocated during the operation.
The report indicated that eight bodies had been recovered, and they were identified as residents of the Mekwanugga village. The dead bodies have been transported to their community for burial rites.
Zamfara is one of the states in the northwest with security challenges. Bandits and kidnappers have been operating in the region, and the people have suffered greatly. The insecurity in the region has affected food security in the country.
Gunmen kill hostage in Gombe
Legit.ng earlier reported that a Gombe man identified as Hammayidi, at Galumji village in the Dukku LGA of the state, has been killed by bandits, after his family paid N5 million ransom.
According to the report, Hammayidi was abducted at his residence three weeks ago during a midnight raid by the bandits.
A family member said that the ransom was raised after the family sold farm produce and livestock on Dukku market day.
