They accused her of violating the cultural-religious harmony of Ilorin.
However, what shocked many was the fearless and unapologetic response from Iya Osun, who boldly declared that not even the Emir of Ilorin can stop her from practicing her religion.
Quoting her father’s roots and her own heritage in Ilorin, she insisted that she was no stranger to the city and had every right to practice her faith.
“I am not a stranger in Ilorin. I am an indigene of Ilorin Emirate. My father’s house is located at Taiwo Isale, my mom’s house is located at Ita Amodu and my village is Afon. All these to tell you that I am not a stranger in Ilorin,” she said.

She went further, invoking the knowledge of the Emir himself to back her claim of legitimacy:
“Even Emir of Ilorin know about me. If you go to Oja Oba, Ita Kure and other notable places here in Ilorin, ask them about me, my name is Osunfumilayo Omo Ajile, they will tell you I am not a stranger. My father was a Muslim, my father was even an Imam.”

The woman accused her accusers of targeting her solely because of her religion and expressed her determination to continue worshipping the river goddess, which she described as her destiny.
“These your confrontations show you are here to fight me because of my religion. And I am not afraid or scared of you. What made me to be worshipping Osun (Rivers), it is my destiny,” she added.
She also threw a direct challenge at her critics, questioning their own religious purity and highlighting what she described as hypocrisy within the community.
“Is there anyone among you that does not have Orisa (deities) that you are worshipping? There is no Imam in Ilorin that is 100% holy at the moment. The river I am worshiping was created by God. And even some Islamic clerics do come to the same rivers for rituals,” she claimed.
The defiant woman dared the group to take the matter to the Emir’s palace if they wished.
“I am ready, if you want to take this matter to Emir’s place, I am ready. I am not a stranger here in Ilorin. Go and mention my name at Emir’s place, they know me and they know what I am doing,” she declared.
