National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said additional state governors are likely to join the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.

He made this known during the 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting of the Bayelsa State chapter of the APC, which also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election. The event was held on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Tinubu's leadership luring opponents in

Represented by the party’s Deputy National Chairman for the South, Chief Emma Eneukwu, Yilwatda said President Tinubu’s leadership record was drawing politicians from rival parties into the APC.

He cited the recent defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwore and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as examples of a growing trend.

According to him, Tinubu has demonstrated the political will to implement policies that previous administrations avoided.

He argued that this determination has strengthened public confidence in the president and positioned the APC as the dominant party going into the next election cycle.

“Our doors are still open. More governors are still moving into our party, more personalities are still moving in, senators, members of the House of Representatives, because of the caliber, integrity, and the output of the person we made president,” he said.

Opposition criticism of Tinubu dismissed

He dismissed PDP and other opposition criticisms, insisting that Tinubu remained focused on governance and that his performance would secure overwhelming support in 2027.

“It is expected that opposition will speak and rise, but it is well assured that we have a product that even a blind man in this country will support overwhelmingly,” Yilwatda added.

He praised the south-south zone, saying political leaders there had begun to rally behind Tinubu by leaving their former parties.

He expressed confidence that similar developments would occur in the South-East and other regions.

“The president is not afraid. He takes the bull by the horn. What others do not have the political will to embark on, he goes about it and achieves results. This president is on the move to take Nigeria to a greater height,” he said.

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, also addressed the gathering, noting that APC in the state was united and prepared to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
