Weather Alert: North Affected As NiMet Lists States Predicted to Experience Thunderstorms, Rain

  • In its one-day weather update, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted that thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected to hit northern states

Northern states to experience thunderstorms, light rains

In its weather outlook issued on Thursday, September 5, NiMet cautioned that on Friday morning, thunderstorms with light rains are expected to hit parts of Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina States.

The federal government agency also noted that thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Borno, and Adamawa States on Friday afternoon.

Central States to experience light rains

In the weather update, NiMet predicted that on Friday morning, thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Plateau and Benue States.

While on Friday afternoon and evening, the agency noted that thunderstorms with light rains are expected in parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Southern states to experience light intermittent rains

Meanwhile in southern states, NiMet forecasted cloudy skies with chances of light rains in parts of Cross River State.

The agency also predicted that on Friday morning, isolated case of light intermittent rains are anticipated over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

Important advisory from NiMet

Meanwhile, residents are advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms as strong winds may accompany rain, leading to reduced visibility, slippery roads, and possible disruption of outdoor activities.

Also, NiMet urged communities in flood-prone areas to remain alert.

NiMet released weather forcast, advises Nigerians

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that in its latest weather outlook for Friday, August 29, NiMet predicted that thunderstorms would hit some northern states.

The FG agency alerted that thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, Taraba, and Jigawa states, on Saturday, August 30.

NiMet also listed some states in southern Nigeria where light rains are expected for one day while urging residents to exercise caution.

FG predicts heavy rainfall, flood in seven states

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that seven states and 25 locations across Nigeria have been predicted to experience heavy rainfall for two days, which could lead to flooding.

The Federal Ministry of Environment revealed this in its latest flood alert issued on Saturday, August 23.

According to the outlook, Benue, Borno, and Gombe are some of the states and its communities expected to be affected.
