Kebbi: First Class Emir Appointed in Major Northern State

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has announced the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami Gomo, III, as the new Emir of Zuru.

Alhaji Abubakar Garba Dutsin-Mari, the state's commissioner for local government, officially announced the development at the Zuru Emir's palace on Thursday, August 28. The commissioner also presented the appointment letter, which was signed by Governor Idris, to the new emir.

Kebbi commissioner explains new emir's appointment

Dutsin-Mari explained that the appointment of a new emir came after the submission of three names to the governor by the kingmakers in the Zuru Emirate Council, which was in line with the provisions of the constitution.

Daily Trust reported that the commissioner added that the governor had exercised the constitutional power bestowed on him, and he therefore approved the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami as the new Emir of Zuru, who is now being recognised as Gomo III.

Earlier, Alhaji Muktari Musa, the Sarkin Wasagu, who was in the acting position as the emir, since the death of the former Emir, welcomed all guests to the palace and formally received the new Emir.

Speaking on Thursday, the new emir expressed gratitude to the Almighty Allah and Governor Idris for his confidence in him. He then sued for peace, urging the people to remain united and loyal. He assured that his administration would adopt an open-door policy and inclusiveness.

He also commended the Sarkin Wasagu for his capability and transparency during the transition period and vowed to continue to support the emirate's people as he has always done.

The former Emir, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sami Goma II, the Emir of Zuru, died at a London hospital in the United Kingdom (UK) on Saturday night, August 16, after a brief illness.

According to Dustin-Mari, the Kebbi state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, the late Emir of Zuru was briefly ill. Mari stated that Emir of Zuru, 81, was survived by four wives and seven children.

Furthermore, the Kebbi government had extended condolences to the late monarch's immediate family, the Zuru emirate, and the entire people of the state and prays to God to give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Kebbi governor declares hijrah holiday

Legit.ng earlier reported that Kebbi state governor Nasir Idris declared Friday, August 30, 2024, as a public holiday for civil servants in the state.

Governor Idris announced the development in a statement through the commissioner for establishment, pension and training, Auwal Manu-Dogondaji.

According to Manu-Dogondaji, the development was to allow the people of the state to prepare for the local government election scheduled for Saturday, August 31.
