36 Students Win Big at 23rd Annual National Mathematics Competition
- Not fewer than 35 students were awarded scholarships at the 23rd Annual National Mathematics Competition in Abuja

Abua, FCT - A total of 35 students on Tuesday, March 31, emerged as winners in the 23rd Annual National Mathematics Competition.
The students also received scholarships for their outstanding performance in the competition, which was organised by Nigerian Tulip International Colleges in collaboration with the National Mathematics Centre for mathematics enthusiasts in Primary 5 & 6 and JSSI to JSS3.

The first and second rounds of the competition took place in Abuja and Kano, respectively, between March 29 and 31, 2026, for the South and North zone qualifiers, respectively.
What is the vision behind the NTIC scholarships?
At an awards presentation which took place on Tuesday, March 31, in Abuja, the managing director of NTIC, Fevzullah Bilgin, said the 36 awardees represent the very best selected from a highly competitive national pool.
Bilgin noted that about 10,000 students participated in the first round of that competition.
According to him, 83 students and 16 students in the primary and junior categories, respectively, qualified for the second round.
He also explained that the broader vision of ANMC is to nurture future innovators- individuals who will contribute meaningfully to scientific advancement in Nigeria, across Africa.
Bilgin said the NTIC, in line with this vision NTIC has committed significant resources towards supporting these aspirations.
“Currently, approximately 100 students benefit from the NTIC- ANMC fully funded scholarship scheme. This represents an investment exceeding one billion Naira annually, an intentional contribution toward strengthening education, human capital development, and nation-building.
"Today, we will celebrate 36 outstanding students,19 from the primary and junior categories receiving full scholarships, and 17 students will be awarded 100% tuition scholarships. These awards cover their entire secondary education at various NTIC branches,” Bilgin said.
In addition, cash prizes and other rewards were presented based on performance. Cash prizes were presented to both students and teachers who ranked in the first 10 positions.
The first three schools from the north and south zones were also presented with desktop computers, printers, and tablets.
How does the ANMC scholarship transform student lives?
Mr Erdal, the ANMC Coordinator, stated that the competition, which was organised annually, maintained its standard.
“With the help of NTIC and NMC, we are currently giving around 100 students scholarships through the scholarship scheme of ANMC.
“The focus of ANMC is to remove the phobia for mathematics from the mind of the young ones right from a tender age, and this in turn opens them to the world of possibilities in sciences and other related subjects.
“Becoming a recipient of the ANMC scholarship offers more than financial support; it provides access to a transformative academic environment at NTIC schools. Students benefit from Olympiad training, advanced science programmes, and rigorous intellectual development initiatives that prepare them for both national and international opportunities.

“With such exposure, admission into leading global universities becomes not merely an aspiration, but a realistic outcome. We are proud of the outstanding students that we have this year, and we are sure that the sky is their starting point to move ahead in the world of mathematics and related sciences subjects and also in their academic journey,” Erdal added.

Lagos schools bag N20m scholarships at sports contest
In a related development, Lagos schools that excelled at a recently concluded national flag football contest received a major boost on Wednesday, March 11, as scholarship awards, cash prizes and trophies were formally presented in recognition of their performance at the 2024 Aketi Bowl II held in Calabar, Cross River state.
The awards ceremony took place at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, where students and officials gathered to celebrate the achievements of the winning teams.
According to the Lagos state government in a post on Facebook, the initiative brought together education and sports stakeholders to acknowledge discipline, teamwork and competitive excellence displayed by the students during the tournament.
