NASA's new rocket on launchpad for trip to Moon
NASA's giant new SLS rocket arrived at its launchpad Wednesday in Cape Canaveral ahead of a planned flight to the Moon in less than two weeks. The SLS rocket, in development for more than a decade, is 98 meters (322 feet) tall.

Tanzania has installed high-speed internet services on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, allowing anyone with a smartphone to tweet, Instagram or WhatsApp their ascent up Africa's highest mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro is an important source of tourism revenue in Tanzania and neighbouring Kenya, with around 35,000 people attempting to summit it each year.
Police arrest suspect in deadly Ecuador blast
Ecuadoran police on Wednesday arrested a suspect in a weekend blast that killed five people in the port city of Guayaquil and was blamed by the government on organized crime, the interior minister said Wednesday. Workers' strike targets power stations in Nigeria
Nigerian electricity workers on Wednesday began an indefinite strike over pay, throwing parts of Africa's most populous nation into darkness, a union leader said. The National Union of Electricity Employees called the nationwide industrial action to compel the government to honour a 2019 agreement to pay retired workers of a former state-owned electricity company.
IMF sees Saudi growth soaring 7.6% this year on high oil prices
The Saudi economy is expected to grow 7.6 percent this year, up from 3.2 percent in 2021, on the back of soaring oil revenues, the International Monetary Fund said Wednesday. Bumper oil revenues and increased tax revenues from the non-oil economy saw the overall fiscal balance improve by almost nine percentage points to a deficit of 2.3 percent of GDP last year, the IMF said.
US retail sales flatline in July as gas prices fall
US retail sales held steady in July as gas prices fell sharply, but the new data released Wednesday showed consumers are still spending, keeping the pressure on the Federal Reserve to continue its aggressive interest rate hikes. "Despite the flat headline reading, the core retail sales figures in July show the consumer has staying power," Kathy Bostjancic of Oxford Economics said.
