Unemployed Graduate Strikes Million In Star TV Game

Although Chiadika Onyeachonam has two degrees – one each in Computer Engineering and Information and Communication Technology – he never had up to a million naira in his account or anywhere. At least, that was the reality until Tuesday.

While many other people have the same experience, Onyeachonam’s situation is more understandable considering the fact that he is unemployed. But he rose from zero to hero when he won a million naira in the Week Three Edition of the Star TV Game Show held in Lagos. With this, he believes his days of joblessness are over.

“I had been hunting for jobs for years,” Onyeachonam said as he received his cheque at the event held at the Lagos Television Complex in Ikeja. “But with this N1m from Star, I think that has ended. I feel as if I am in the moon now and I am yet to come to the reality that my account will be reading a million. I pinched myself about three times, just to confirm that I was not dreaming.”

Two other participants went home with the same amount each. These are Chinedu Agoh and Abiodun Ali. Agoh’s story is also interesting. He emptied his bank account to challenge his luck. According to him, Star has rewarded his appetite for taking risks.

He noted, “I had to overcome my doubt to give the show a try. Right now, I don’t have a kobo in my account but Star has changed the story for me.”

In the case of Ali, a cloth seller from Ogun State, he feels he can now radically inject fund into his business which he went into when he lost his job last November.

The seven-week show will produce 21 millionaires. According to Star Brand Manager, Mr. Omotunde Adenusi, the essence of the game show is to appreciate and reward the brand’s teeming and loyal customers, who had, through their patronage, made Star the number one beer brand in the Nigerian market.

He explained, “As a brand, we believe we must seek creative ways to connect with our customers. The customers are always at the heart of everything that we do. They are the reason we decided to organise and sponsor the game show so we could reward them for the loyalty all through the years.”

Past winners of the show include Emeka John, Ugwu Chukwuemeka, David Smith, , Ndubisi Egbunowu and Onouha Benjamin.
