Kaduna State Governor Bans Okada In Some Areas Over Security Issues

Kaduna State governor Mukhtar Yero has imposed a ban on operation of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, in Kaduna metropolis and in the major towns of the state, NAN reports.

The new bill signed by Kaduna State House of Assembly is aimed at enhancing security. The ban is said to have been imposed because of the increasing number of commercial motorcycles  flooding the state after a similar law had been taken in some neighbouring states (Plateau, Niger, Kano and the FCT).

The law enters into force starting from May 21 and applies to the following areas: Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun, Igabi, Zaria, Jema’a, Sabon Gari and Birnin Gwari local government areas.

The punishment for violating the law is a 3-month imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.
